SINGfest '08 with Alicia Keys!

Hey it's me again, the appointed "co-writer" for souldelite.com (boleh ka Mr Defoo? ;).

Anyway, just wanted to share my awesome weekend with Alicia Keys and Jason Mraz! Well no, they didn't come down to Malaysia for the MAAs but instead my boss sent me to Singapore to cover for SINGfest '08.

It is the second time SINGfest is held and this year, and the two-day music festival boasts big names like Simple Plan, Travis, Stacie Orrico, Jamie Scott and the Town, OneRepublic, Panic at the Disco, The Pussycat Dolls, 80s singer Rick Astley and of course the two acts I mentioned previously!

Thousands of people flocked to Fort Canning Park in Singapore (a huge park not unlike KL's Bukit Kiara but smaller) to catch the event.

Jason Mraz was indeed a crowd favourite when he appeared in his unassuming self - simple white t-shirt, hat and his guitar. He opened with his first ever hit, The Remedy (that at one point he even remixed with Oasis' Wonderwall).

He did a lot of songs from his new album like Make It Mine, Butterfly, Live High, Only Human, The Dynamo of Volition and of course the song everybody loves - I'm Yours!

I didn't get to see his whole set as I was getting ready at the side of the stage for the meet-and-greet with him after his performance. After a while, we finally got in the media area and there he was, coming towards us and greeting us! He was very nice and and I told him I enjoyed his show - and after a quick snap of a photo we left.

A few minutes later, I had to standby for the meet and greet with the one and only Alicia Keys! Now this ended up to a two-hour wait (had to just listen to Rick Astley and Pussycat Dolls from the side) but when she finally appeared close to 11 p.m, beautiful and warm as ever - that short 30 seconds meet was all worth the wait!

She got on the stage soon after and opened with her new song Go Ahead (one of my faves from her new album, As I Am). Alicia did her biggest hits and also songs from her new album - Like You'll Never See Me Again, Superwoman, Wreckless Love, and also her usuals are like Fallin', Karma, How Come You Don't Call Me, Unbreakable, If I Ain't Got You, Diary, A Woman's Worth - and an encore with No One.

So that was my little experience in Singapore over the weekend! Thanks for reading!

Back from hiatus

Sorry for leaving this page un-updated for almost a month! A lot has happened since;

Jakarta International Jazz Festival - it was truly an interesting experience to attend one of the biggest jazz festivals in the world and it was really overwhelming to see sooo many artists performing on 18 stages in the 3-day event.

Got to catch performances by Renee Olstead, Bobby Caldwell, Jody Watley and Raul Midon - and that's not even half of it. I was also introduced to Indonesian music by the likes of Parkdrive, Pasto and Bibus. Oh, of course the highlight of it all was the special show (more like a full concert) by the one and only Babyface! To sum it up: AMAZING.

Sunburst KL - it just goes to show that rain or shine, Malaysians generally do know how to have fun. While I didn't stay till the end of the show (when the main acts performed), I think the event is a considerable success and we look forward to have a world-class music festival to call our own.

People, take note: Layar Tanchap Shah Alam - scheduled to be held on Friday, 7 March 2008 - is postponed due to the upcoming Malaysia General Elections! (are you voting?)

The first KL Undercover meet!

It's finally here - the first ever KL Undercover is coming to you for its inaugural event in town on Friday, 22 February 2008! It will be held at Studio @ Paradiso (ex-Aero Bar), opposite Istana Hotel and Wisma Genting (t's the building behind Paradiso).

We're pimpin' that space up for you to enjoy some real hip hop and R&B that needs to be heard and schooled. You're about to witness something you've never witnessed before in Kuala Lumpur and we are doing it BIG!

KL Undercover's first event will be featuring DJ Cliq and Cza. On the mic, Yang Ariff. It's off the hook now.

John Legend in Malaysia?

... and you think you'd never see John Legend stepping into our shores this soon.

After a great music festival last November that is Live & Loud KL 2007, we have yet another cool music event heading our way - that is the Sunburst KL International Music Festival 2008 (Sunburst 2008)!

So who's performing? We have John Legend! Incubus! The Roots! Incognito! Tompi! Pop Shuvit! Estranged! Atilia! Hujan! Najwa! And many many more (word has it that more performers might be added to the list as we speak, err write. Or I mean read).

The one-day concert is scheduled to take place at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club, KL on 15 March 2008.

Tickets are RM 200 each, available from 29 January onwards. The organizers are also offering an Early Bird promo where between 29 Jan and 3 Feb, tickets are at a 30% discount! They will also be at Pavillion KL on 3 February for you to purchase your tickets - and be entertained by Reza Salleh, Hujan and Atilia!

Brace yourselves - Infinatez is back in the action!

The boys got to the studios after P Ramlee the Musical ended a few months back. Now, the singles are almost ready!

You can catch teasers of their upcoming singles at the AMP website: amp.channelv.com/infinatez. Here, you can check out Paparazzi (written by Andy), Ada Masa (by Alvin a.k.a. defoo) and a remake of a popular Sabah song, Sayang Kinabalu - done acapella style.

Sayang Kinabalu will be an exclusive release for The Land Below The Wind so to our friends over there, watch out ya! :)

Infinatez will also be working with who's who in the music industry for their future releases, so that is something truly worth waiting for as well.

One Man Show No More?

Soul Delite has been up and running for about 2 years. The intention was to let people updated on what's happening in the underground scene. The gigs, the a
